Under 21
Our hurlers had a great win on Sunday against Ballina. This was a game that went all the way to the wire as Newport had a comfortable lead, but following a great comeback, Ballina brought the game to extra time. Trailing by a point after the first period a great Kealan Floyd goal in the final period was enough for Newport to hold out.

Conor O’Mahony
Now that the dust has settled and we all get used to the idea that we will no longer be cheering our clubman Conor in the heat of battle for Tipperary, we wish both himself and his family the best in the years ahead. Tributes about his on field heroics are well documented but we would like to thank Conor for all the help he has given over the years.  Never did he refuse a request to help at events i.e medal presentations or just as a presence at schools or a coaching session. He was always very generous with his time. His first All Star jersey hangs in pride of place at our club rooms. Well done Conor and thanks for all the great days.

AGM
The club AGM takes place this Friday at 8.00pm in the club rooms so if you would like to get involved or have a say in the running of the club, please attend.
The AGM of the Juvenile Club will take place in the Clubhouse on Tuesday, 1st December at 8.00pm.

Scór na nÓg
Well done to our Ballad Group and Instrumental Music Group who were victorious in the North Final of Scor na nOg held recently in Birdhill Hall. The members of the Instrumental Music Group were Niamh Bourke, Orla O’Brien, Lisa McKeogh, Aisling Bourke and Allison McKeogh. The members of the Ballad Group were Elizabeth Floyd, Ciara Sweeney, Grace Floyd, Kate Hewitt and Saoirse Higgins. They all performed very well but unfortunately success did not come their way at the County Final stage in Cashel last Friday night. Well done to our Quiz team who acquitted themselves very well in the County Final. Team members were Brendan Coffey, Emmett Floyd, Colin Coleman and Stephen Coffey.

Junior Hurling
The end of the road came on Sunday for our Junior Hurlers who were beaten by Eire Og Annacarty in the county final. This was a game in which Newport had plenty of scoring chances but failed to convert them. The club would like to thank all the players and mentors for their effort and commitment in reaching the county final.

Sean Ghael
The club would like to congratulate Joe Brennan on receiving the Sean Ghael award last Sunday in the Dome, Thurles. This was a fitting accolade for the hard work and dedication Joe has given to the club over the last four decades.

Under 21
Our U21 hurlers have been drawn against Ballina in the next round of the championship which is due to be played next Sunday in Portroe at 2.00pm. Please come out and support the lads.

Minor:

Hard luck to our minors who were beaten by Kildangan in the North Minor Hurling Final last Saturday. See match report

The club would like to thank all the players for their efforts over the year along with the team mentors. Attention will now turn to the outstanding Minor Football fixture and with some of these players involved with the Junior and U21 teams they have the chances to bring more accolades to the club.

Coaching Plan:

Newport GAA launched its coaching plan last Friday evening in the clubhouse. The coaching plan is based on best international practice, in the development of players from under 6

and for their lifetime and for the coaches who train the players. The plan was the brainchild of the late Professor Pat Duffy, who served as coaching officer prior to his untimely death in August 2014. The task of completing the plan was overseen by our present Coaching Officer Shane Gavin and the Coaching committee. Chairperson Padraig Tobin paid tribute to Pat and to the Shane for creating such a comprehensive document that will be of significant value to all our players. He thanked Deirdre and the Duffy family for being present as the club acknowledged the legacy Pat has left to the club.

All Ireland Handball:

The club would like to wish the best of luck to Barry O’Meara & Daniel Healy from Newport

Juvenile Handball Club who are representing Tipperary in the All Ireland U17 Doubles 60x30 final v Wexford in Ballymoe, Co. Roscommon this Sunday.

Juveniles

  • The Juvenile Club hosted the annual James O'Rourke Tournament last Saturday in Lacken Park. We had four under 11 Football teams competing this year from Newport, Burgess, Cappamore & Kilfenora.  After six very competitive and exciting group games the finalists for both the A & B Finals were decided with Newport & Cappamore contesting the A Final & Kilfenora and Burgess in the B Final. In what were two very exciting and dramatic finals Kilfenora prevailed to win by 2 points in the 'B' final and Cappamore were victorious in the 'A' final. The latter won by 3 points, with the Newport lads camped in the opposition's half but just couldn't break down their defence who had a keeper in tremendous form. The club would like to thank Diarmuid Collins for all the work he put into organizing the tournament this year and all the teams who participated in the and helped to make the Tournament such a wonderful success. We would also like to thank our referees Peter Coleman & Pat Gibson and all the parents who  helped with catering on the day.
  • Our under 7 & 8 hurlers are away to Doon this Saturday in a Hurling blitz. We need to be there for 11:45 AM

County Semi-Final
Our intermediates have qualified for the co. semi final after a hard fought victory over Golden. A goal from Martin Carey steadied the ship in the first half but Newport needed the accuracy of Eoin Shinnors to see them over the line. See paper for full report.

Junior Football
Our footballers lost out to Gortnahoe in the Co. Quarter final on Sunday in a disappointing result. This was a competition that Newport could have gone further in, but without the services of the Intermediate Hurlers, unfortunately, it was not meant to be.
