Under 21 Hurling:
The end of the road came on Sunday for our hurlers who were beaten by Sean Treacy’s/Cappawhite in the County semi-final. See match report.
Newport played 50 minutes with 14 players following the sending off of Davy Gleeson on a straight red which was a very harsh decision. Leading by four points at the break, thanks to a Daniel Carew goal, it was backs to the wall stuff for the second half. We conceded a soft goal due to a deflection and the teams were level on 60 minutes. The West side managed to score the winner in the 62nd minute. Well done to all involved on what was a good year for this team having secured the north title earlier.
The Adjourned AGM will take place on Friday, 9th January at 8pm in the club rooms.
New Years Day:
The focus of attention now switches to the much awaited clash between the Over 35’s from Newport and Ballinahinch with throw in at 2pm. All proceeds from this encounter go to Newport Day Care Centre. Please support all involved in this game.
Well done to the Boys National School who finished 4th in the North GAA Quiz in Cloughjordan on Nov. 30th. Well done lads & many thanks to Tricia Gibson & Rosemary Ryan for preparing the team.
The GAA & Camogie clubs plan on visiting the Primary Schools on Dec. 15th with the various trophies they have won over the season.
Our footballers lost out to Borrisokane in the North final last Sunday by 3 points. This was a game that should have been played last March but alas certain clubs were not in a position to play back then. Newport received a walk over from Ballina in the semi so the extra game stood to Borrisokane. The hurlers are busy preparing for a county semi final in 3 weeks, so good luck to all.
The club would like to congratulate Newport/Ballinahinch camogie club on a fantastic year. The minors won their county final on Sunday last to add to county titles already won by the U14's league and championship and the U16's championship while the junior girls also brought silverware home. Well done to all involved and enjoy the trip to Dundrum Shopping Centre.

Our U21 hurlers were crowned North 'B' champions on Saturday last in a very tight game against Borrisoleigh. We conceded a goal just before half time to go in 2 behind at the break but rallied well and drew level straight away. It took a point from the sideline by Brendan Ryan on the 60th minute to win the title. Well done to all concerned.

Our junior hurlers lost by 3 points to Portroe in last Sunday's North Junior 'B' final. Anyone in attendance would not have foreseen a final margin this close when Newport trailed by 14 points at half time having scored just one point in the first half. Second half goals from Daniel Carew and Dave Hickey led the fightback but unfortunately the time ran out and Portroe were crowned champions. Well done to all involved.
