Scór
Scór na nÓg: Thanks to all those who represented the club in the North Final in the Silvermines
recently. Well done to our Ballad Group and Instrumental Music Group who won the County Final last Friday night in Holycross. They now go on to represent Tipperary in the Munster semifinal in Cappamore on 6th January. Lorna Floyd, Brian McAuliffe, Ciara Floyd and Kealan Floyd are in both groups and they are joined by Conor Floyd in the Ballad Group and by Ellen Gorman in the Instrumental Music. They also have the opportunity to audition for a new TG4 series on Scor na nOg which will be screened in 2013. We wish
them all the best in their endeavours in 2013.
Hard luck to the Quiz team who were unsuccessful in the County Final.
Newport were declared best 'Scór na nÓg' club in North Tipperary - picture shows Anthony Floyd receiving the trophy from Phil Keyes.

Scór na bPáistí: Our Area Final will take place in Templederry on Friday, 25th January. The other clubs competing there will be Portroe, Eire Og Nenagh, Roscrea, Shannon Rovers and the host club Templederry. Our Parish Final will take place in Birdhill Hall in mid January. This year we are incorporating a "Battle of the Schools" in the Quiz competition. Perpetual Cup on offer and other valuable prizes. We would encourage as many people as possible to take part in the various acts involved in Scor. These are Solo Singing, Ballad Group, Instrumental Music, Figure Dancing, Set Dancing, Recitation, Novelty Act and the Quiz. So get your act(s) in order and take part in your parish final.

Schools
Congratulations to Newport Boys N.S. on their very successful Mini Football Tournament held in Lacken Pk. last Thurs.  Schools from Birdhill, Ballinahinch and Newport participated. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Rearcross were forced to drop out earlier in the week.  Birdhill, under manager Joe Floyd, put in spirited displays in both their matches but were unable to match the scoring power of the other two sides.  Before the final, Mr. McCormack organized  a display of football by the younger classes in Newport B.N.S. and judging from this, the school should have no trouble fielding a decent team in years to come. The final proved to be a very keenly contested affair, with Ballinahinch looking very comfortable at half time 4 pts up. However the Newport side came out for the second half with determination and both sides thrilled the spectators with some of the best football seen in Lacken Pk in recent times.  With seconds to go, Newport 2pts ahead looked set for victory but Ballinahinch made one final surge to score the winning goal snatching victory by 1pt before the final whistle sounded.  It was a great tournament and well done to all who participated. Thanks to Mr. Skehane for organizing the event and a big thank you to the club helpers who turned out on the day to ensure the event ran smoothly.
The  St. Mary's Under 16½ side bowed out of the Munster Schools when they were heavily defeated by Pallaskenry in Clarina last Thurs.  The Under 18½'s are due to play Tralee after mid-term.

Schools
St. Mary's  had a narrow win in the Munster Championship when they defeated a fancied Kilmacthomas side in Boherlahan last Wednesday with a scoreline of 3-9 to 2-11.  A crucial goal by Davy Gleeson just before half time helped settle Mary's while their second goal came from impact sub Daniel Carew in the second half.  Kevin Mulcahy's 6 pts  from frees also helped Mary's secure victory.
St Mary's Under 16½'s  play Ballingarry in Dr. Morris Pk this Monday (15th).
Primary coaching continues weekly in Birdhill,  Lackamore & Newport B.N.S.  We will shortly commence coaching in the Convent Primary.  After-school-training continues in St.Mary's with the help of the local clubs while Mr. Bourke continues to keep the flag flying in St. Joseph's.
