Under 8: We had a busy training session last Saturday morning with drills on footwork, shoulder clash and ground striking, followed by a very competitive game. It was also the first week of the "player of the week’’ competition. Congratulations to Jamie O Sullivan and Shane Harrington joint winners of the first trophies. Well done to all the players. We train again this Thursday evening and then play in an U-7,8,9 & 10 tournament against Na Piarsaigh before the Tipp V Limerick games next Sunday. We are looking forward to it.

Champions: Congratulations to the Newport U-10 footballers and Newport U-13 Camogie team who were both crowned County champions last Saturday in the Community games at Holycross. Well done to players, mentors and supporters.

Under 10: We hosted teams from Kilmacud, Sixmilebridge and Murroe last Sunday morning in Lacken Park. We had our new goalposts in use for the first time, which was paid for from the bag packing in Dunnes recently. Big thank you to all the parents for making sandwiches and buns for the teams. Thank you to James Collins too for refereeing the matches.
All teams said they had a great morning and were impressed with how well Lacken Park looked and they were all enquiring where we had purchased our new goalposts. Well done to the boys for putting in great performances for three games especially after a lot of them playing in the county final the day before.

Senior: Our hurlers drew with Holycross / Ballycahill last Friday at Holycross in the County hurling league. Final score Tulach Sheasta 2-20 Holycross / Ballycahill 2-20.

Best wishes: to the community in Birdhill for a very successful day, when President Michael D. Higgins visits next Saturday, in recognition of winning National Tidy Towns.

Fun Day: The excitement is building up for our Family Fun Day on June 24th with news that our Senior hurlers will challenge the might of the Junior team in a ‘tug of war’. Should make for a great day. More news on Fun Day to follow.

Best of luck: To Sean O’ Brien and the Tipperary hurlers in the Munster championship game V Limerick this Sunday.
